A Day in Central Tableland

Our Weekend Memoirs

My weekend memoirs of our travel to Orange today. It's about three and a half hours drive by car from the city. And early morning trip was okay and when we got home, boy! it was sizzling hot!

If not for the aircon in the car, I would end up a Roast Me on a dinner plate. And the chocolate I brought with me melted. I took more than 200 hundreds photos of which I only have few to share. Some of the photos are posted at Facebook. Everybody loves Facebook these days. Don't you?

Blackheath in the Blue Mountains, home to Rhododendrons

ORANGE, my old homeplace. Orange is formerly known as Blackman's Swamp and was later renamed into Orange after the Prince of Orange in Holland. Mind you, this is only a misnomer as Oranges can never be grown in this frost-cold region in Central West. It farms more of stoned-fruits like Apples, Peaches, Nectarines, etc.

The old Commonwealth Bank Building

Post Office, a heritage building

Memorial Hall with red doors and behind ET look-alike tree was established in 1814-1818.

The Gazebo in Cook Park where the local Band and Symphonic Orchestra play.

Tree-lined streets

Sunburnt Country

These trees are still recovering from the 2002 bushfires in the Blue Mountains.

Outside Orange on the way back to the city, we passed by Lucknow and stopped at the roadside fruit vendor. I bought myself a box of Fresh Sweet Ripe Cherries from Young.

Years ago, I used to do Cherry picking. The boss was very kind and generous and above all considerate. A lowly job may be to most of you but the pay was first class.

I know that there are cultures who look down on laborious and menial jobs but little did they know that these are the most demanding and highly paid jobs. So roll those sleeves up and start earning an honest living. As for me, it is time to hang my working gloves. I have enough! Time to put my feet up and sip a bit of champagne. It's not bad to congratulate yourself with a dose of luxury once in a while. Smile!

MARYT/THETEACH conceptualized that All Doors and Windows must be opened to Everyone but only on WEDNESDAY. Enjoy good VIEWING!

Here's some of the trains that we run for our daily lives to work, home, city, mountains, other suburbs and remote places...anywhere we go for as long as it is accessible by train. Something different for my window menu this time.

I was feeling bored and restless. I decided to do random gallivanting and ended up this way called Circular Quay. That was last Saturday!

Alas, my wallet was left at home so I missed out dining in my favourite Bistro under the Opera House. Food there is somewhat expensive but it's worth the value for a nice yummy meal.

I feel comfortable eating there as no one knows me and therefore I can either gobble up quick or take bite after bite at long minutes interval each bite. I do take my time while others are in a hurry to catch up the show whatever time they booked.

Servers are friendly and they always follow the mess if you accidentally make any and even fill your empty glass if you need another drink.

Bonn appetit!

The Collage

This is Leonardo, a Portuguese Artist. I saw him laying down his work on a walkway across Sydney Central Plaza and he surely drew a crowd watching him doing his artwork. With only Eric, my mobile phone camera on hand, I asked his permission if I could take pictures of him and his work of art. He obliged smilingly and the shutter silently clicked. I thought this would be appropriate to post here on Our Weekend Memoirs.

My Calm Weekend Reflection

Weekend Reflections Entry #3 as hosted by our friend James of Newtown Area Photos blog. Please join us HERE!

“Beauty is a primeval phenomenon, which itself never makes its appearance, but the reflection of which is visible in a thousand different utterances of the creative mind, and is as various as nature herself.” ~Johann Wolfgang von Goethe quotes (German Playwright, Poet, Novelist and Dramatist. 1749-1832)

Part of the long Waikato River

Before we proceeded to Huka Falls, we stopped by this River - the longest Waikato River of the North Island of New Zealand.

Where glory is found in commonplace
And calm rivers lay a carpet to rest
Knowing where peace hides away from cares
Here, there's no trouble but silence bares.

Busy Sky ... looking down the water

My Skywatch Friday #20

At last the chilling days and gloomy clouds passed away. Our last day in Taupo had been blessed with a beautiful grand day. We went for a country drive and visit this busy tourist hub called the Huka Falls.

“There's beauty in the silver singing river, There's beauty in the sunrise in the sky, But none of these and nothing else can match the beauty, That I remember in my true love's eyes”~Bob Dylan quotes (American folksinger, b.1941)

“We'd never know how high we are, till we are called to rise; and then, if we are true to plan, our statures touch the sky”~Emily Dickinson quotes (American Poet who has been called the New England mystic, 1830-1886)

I feel sorry for these blokes who missed out the beauty hanging above their heads. Their focus is mainly down the water

rushing in loud roaring thunder and gushing down to Waikato River.

Yet, I ended here. I mean I am tired living everywhere though it helps enriched my experience. Today, I can't complain for I am now peacefully and blissfully settled here. Welcome to my nest home.

A very quiet footpath that takes us to where ever we go.

The entrance gate to the visitor's carpark

This tree is the most popular habitat of our local birds. Morning, noon and night time, birds choose to frolic here. The old man has built a bird house for them to come and visit as frequently as they could. We love listening to their music, their twittering and chirping noises that condensed into a symphonic bird concert until twilight.

Kia Ora, a Maori (Native New Zealander) word of greetings which means Welcome. Its Australian equivalent is G'day Mate. Now let's see what's their sky is up to.

My early morning rise viewing the lake from the courtyard of the Karaka Tree Motel, then looked up at the sky. This long cloud certainly caught my fanciful interest and made me think of the word Aotearoa - The Land of Long White Cloud which name simply means New Zealand.

As I further turned around sideways to the right, I could vividly see the length of this cloud extending further from the north to the east in rather a pretty smooth stream.

I ventured walking to town from our accommodation trying to keep myself fit for an exercise. It was a nice morning to walk having a cool fresh air and relaxing breeze coming from the lake for a company. My eyes were always focused in the sky observing the behaviour of the long white clouds glacing in the sky.

As the morning progressed so were my steps and strides. And the long cloud well, it changed into something like a pleasant pout nestling down ...err I don't know where?

The word Aotearoa is a Maori word broken up into two components: aotea for cloud and roa which means long. Wikipedia further states that in translation the word "'white' was added as it is the most common colour of cloud and it is accordingly glossed as "The land of the long white cloud". The origin or Etymology of which is found in New Zealand Wikipedia.

Old Post Office near Central Railway Station

MARYT/THETEACH conceptualized that All Doors and Windows must be opened to Everyone but only on WEDNESDAY. Enjoy good VIEWING!

As I stood one morning at Lee Street Bus Bay to go to the Northern Shore, this building across the street had caught my attention due to its distinct heritage characteristic. Then I noticed the embossed Seal or Coat of Arms above the archway door and subsequently read the name of the building Post Office.

The seal was produced by the General Post Office, Sydney New South Wales in 1838.

To the stamp enthusiasts, clicking on the link of the Seal might lead you to something interesting about the history of Australian Stamp Making.

This is the full view of this heritage building now renamed Medina Executive Sydney Central Hotel.

Watering a Deserted Parched Planet

Watery Wednesday #12

There's more water in our WATERY WEDNESDAY to fill our drying tanks. Great concept of 2Sweetandsaxy.

It's basically Summer now here though Spring is still the name of the game of our season. The feel of the drought is pretty much unwavering; unrelenting. Moonson rainfall in the past days did not help a bit.

The intensity of the heat dehydrates every fibre of human tissues unimaginable ... so I thought I would bring some with me back home the bluish lake of New Zealand: its silent and almost uninhabited pond, the tempting coolness of the harbour and the refreshing gushes of Huka Falls to cool off some southern tempers of the down underners.

The Swan Lake, not Tchaikovsky's masterpiece but Lake Taupo due to the presence of these elegant black swimmers.

The Marina: Cruising and Fishing Harbour

The Pond I spied below the country road outside the town.

The rustling waves lapping ashore. This portion of the lake is about 20 minutes drive from the main town of Taupo.

Huka Falls, a short fall having fast rapids and forceful current. See Video. It's worth the trouble.

Sorry for being slack. I don't think my faculty is in its active functional mode. But I am posting this in honour of one very deserving beloved Friends in our lives whose gargantuan achievements as I found out are incomprehensible let alone incredible. To Rob and Trish

My children are very much involved with this very caring and loving couple since they were little. They witnessed how they grow up physically and spiritually from childhood to adult human beings. Having been equipped with discernment and compassion as an Elder, Deacon and Minister and Parents without their own children, they saw how my kids endured the tribulations under grace of growing up children at home, at school and inside and outside the church.

Mr and Mrs Barnett are only known to everybody as Rob and Trish. Aussies are not particular with any distinctions or title be the subject is Prime Minister, President, Chanchellor, Commodore, lawyer, engineer, a doctor whatever; he or she is usually addressed by its own name. Gee, that would make you feel on equal footing with them, don't you?

I addressed my GP once by his title Dr Mc and straightaway, he fixed me "call me Joe". That simple and how down to earth people are here down under.

The long dining hall of the Barnett's Residence. My little girls helped Mr Barnett set up the table with china and cutleries. He taught them how to properly placed them on each side of the plate. Boy, how they enjoyed learning Home Economics from him. Taken in Aprill 2000. Occasion: Night to be much observed.

Some church friends on their tour to the Movie World in Queensland. The gentleman in red is Uncle Rob or Mr Barnett. By his side is Auntie Trish, his darling wife. They tagged the girls along so I could be free.

The little old woman in red standing on the porch of a mobile home at Ashmore Palm Village in Sunshine Coast, Queensland. The couple provided us the accommodation much to our surprise. A gift from heaven I should say.

The young girls in red posing for my camera right in their own bedroom enjoying the liberty of a Tourist Life.

Their last plunge in this swimming pool, facility of the village. The dolphin could not do anything but put up with the heaviness of this girl in red swimsuit.

Ahhh...taken in Zigzag Railway over at Lithgow. One of the tourist attraction of that place. Here's the couple enjoying the company of their borrowed girls. Pretty cold spring time at this time in 2001.

The Zig Zag is a full size, narrow gauge tourist railway located at Clarence, ten km east of Lithgow in the Blue Mountains of New South Wales, Australia. Built in the 1860s, the line was constructed to transport people and produce from the western plains of NSW to Sydney. It was replaced in 1910 by a 10 tunnel deviation.

These are among the best of the memories we have with them.

There is but one philosophy and its name is fortitude! To bear is to conquer our fate. ~ Edward G. Bulwer-lytton

It was still dark when we left Sydney to travel to Canberra for the funeral of our former Church Minister. This was the look of the sky with daylight gaining momentum to peep through the somber clouds.

On the way, from clear soft morning, suddenly there appeared from nowhere a thin brume thickened to fog to hide the countryside pulchritude from view. I took this inside a running vehicle on the highway.

This man-made lake is an ideal attribute to this huge Resting Place where those that sleep will be left in due peace. I purposely took this picture for the Weekend Reflections. This tranquil setting in an island of solitude connotes a calm reflection of life as it is while on this temporary dwelling of ours on the face of this clear water surface. The shadow of the trees mirrored itself on such a quiet undisturbed watery graveyard.

We see beautiful green and pristine nature. Now, let's see the human civilization's laid back side of prosperity. Would you agree with me that this is the cleanest town? The world of discipline is right here. Good, helpful, warm and friendly people and a great host to visitors. Of course, they have their own share of domestic blues - but when it comes to housekeeping and hospitality, it seems nothing can beat this beautiful place called Taupo, New Zealand.

Our recent trip to this Green Country was worth every penny, heart and soul we put forth in going there inspite few discomfort of the climate change menu to which we had have no control. All else, we're very happy and pleased!

Our Weekend Memoirs

My first weekend morning stroll along Lake Taupo, the history of which is now posted in my main blog Parched Paper and the Quill.

I let the quotes speak on my behalf. They are as truthful as nature contains.

I remember a hundred lovely lakes, and recall the fragrant breath of pine and fir and cedar and poplar trees. The trail has strung upon it, as upon a thread of silk, opalescent dawns and saffron sunsets. It has given me blessed release from care and worry and the troubled thinking of our modern day. It has been a return to the primitive and the peaceful. Whenever the pressure of our complex city life thins my blood and benumbs my brain, I seek relief in the trail; and when I hear the coyote wailing to the yellow dawn, my cares fall from me - I am happy. ~Hamlin Garland, McClure's, February 1899

To see a world in a grain of sand,
And a heaven in a wild flower,
Hold infinity in the palm of your hand,
An eternity in an hour.
~William Blake

The least movement is of importance to all nature. The entire ocean is affected by a pebble.~Blaise Pascal

Nature teaches more than she preaches. There are no sermons in stones. It is easier to get a spark out of a stone than a moral.~John Burroughs

Come forth into the light of things, Let Nature be your teacher.~William Wordsworth

It is a wholesome and necessary thing for us to turn again to the earth and in the contemplation of her beauties to know of wonder and humility.~Rachel Carson

There is a pleasure in the pathless woods,
There is a rapture on the lonely shore,
There is society, where none intrudes,
By the deep sea, and music in its roar:
I love not man the less, but Nature more.

Sydney International Airport: taken before departure time at 8am.

The clouds dusting off its feathers as the plane taxied on the runway ready for a take off.

Auckland International Airport how it looked at past 3pm right after we finished off at the customs. I took this from the window as we were walking inside the airport premise to claim our luggages..

The sticky beak of me spied what's going on inside the airport compound. As you can see, this part is the hub of the airline laborious activities. But my eyes was more focused to the sky.

Now, you see what I mean? I was bit ... bit ... just bit ... as we still had another flight to tackle....with this clouds looming to doom? Heavens forbid!

Crossing towards Auckland Domestic Airport at 4pm

After a long wait, we were called for boarding our flight to Taupo. And this what had greeted us outside: strong dusty wind so freezing cold! Time:5:30pm

Auckland to Taupo Sky in the early stage few minutes after take off

Stage 2 of a milky journey away from the scary bad storm during lift off.

Stage 3 dreaming this heavenly creamy sight

That I call the "Iceberg in the Sky" at the elevation of 16,00 feet above the sea due to the stormy weather condition

We're getting there in few minutes.

Here we come! Safe landing at 6:15pm

Welcome to Taupo!

This is how the sky looks in the landing area soon after we took off from the plane.

A different look outside the premise while waiting for the shuttle bus to take us to Karaka Tree Motel in Taupo. Time:6:50pm

This is where we stayed on our arrival. The sky was looking beautiful and a promising adventure.

Until the sky changed its mind faster as any human minds change.

Storm ingathering. It thickens like faults of men.

The wrath is consumed up in heavens.

Unleashed tears, the sky cannot withhold no more.

Taupo Bungy Jumping this TWTW

My Entry #4 to
This Way Thurs-Way

On the road This Way Thursday Way! My Own Road to spare...taken from my recent trip. Please give the above logo a tickle of a mouse to join!

Bored in running away from the icy weather of rain and sleets up in Turangi, we decided to go back to Taupo and sneaked out to see places nearby. So round the bend we went and the road took us here.

I jokingly call this area a death chamber.

That's the hanging rope there that is tied up to the legs to support a daredevil as he jumps down to the river. I think a pulley is used to hoist him back to the top. As he jumps, his head goes down first. Wanna dare?

No, I never said I would go bungy jumping. The thought of it makes me feel dizzy already. I will never dare and I don't care if I will not win.

Behold, the nations are as a drop of a bucket, and are counted as the small dust of the balance: behold, he taketh up the isles as a little thing.~Isaiah 40:15

As Air New Zealand plane took off, I requested a lady by the window to take these aerial shots for me with my new camera: Olympus FE-4000, a blessed belated birthday present from a friend. I was truly gobsmacked when she handed me a bag of goodies before my departure. Boy, I could cry in a bucket for joy like a little child. Oh yes, I endlessly thanked the lady who did this wonderful job for me. She was all smiles when I explained to her that I was going to blog these photos.

Facts:

Sydney Airport (also known as Kingsford Smith Airport)is located in the Sydney suburb of Mascot. It is the major airport serving Sydney, and is a major hub for Qantas.

Sydney Airport is one of the oldest continually operated airports in the world, and the busiest airport in Australia, handling 31.9 million passengers and 290,346 aircraft movements in 2007. It was the 28th busiest airport in the world in 2003. The airport is managed by Sydney Airport Corporation Limited (SACL) and the current CEO is Russell Balding.

Situated next to Botany Bay, the airport has three runways, colloquially known as the "East-West", "North-South" and "Third" runways. It has the smallest land area of any capital city airport in Australia.

It is a dream, sweet child! a waking dream,

Okay guys, here's one of the places we visited up in Taupo, New Zealand. Very interesting buzzing beesness. I somewhat ended up going home sneezing after that day.

No, we did not buy any honey at all. Too expensive!

Now let the pictures do the talking. I'll just add the conclusion later.

It sure was a profitable weekend memoirs making the most of our restricted time. Gladly, the sun was up after some gloomy and weary days. Perhaps, Mother Sky thought she's tired looking glum opening her eyes to let her teardrops fell from heaven. Enough, she said, "I'm exhausted!" She yelled on us, Sinners here on earth. Amen.

My friend Simone, a New Zealander and a Dietitian by profession, had once worked for the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS) based at Port Augusta, South Australia. They flew to the outback to serve the people who live far out of reach from the mainstream government health services.

She sent me this sample of the red fine sand from the place where she worked. Simone is currently going on a world tour.

With this in mind, I wonder if the dust storm we had sustained that recently turned the city red could have been originated from there, judging from this grain of red sand? Just guessing
